where we dessert

Purple, gold, beautiful packaging and combinations that are amazing make this leading gourmet food and specialty boutique extraordinaire! Don’t miss a chance to have this very French experience! Fauchon at 30 Place Madeleine
TT1 Try anything-it is all delicious and so beautifully presented

Truly this is the most delicious ice cream ever and certainly the most beautiful! Expect out of this world flavours and then not merely a scoop but a perfect rose of ice-cream in a sugar cone at Amorino- there are many branches but we go either to 82 rue Montorgueil or 31 rue Vieille Temple
TT1 You must try the flavour Amerino.

On the local road to the Malelane Gate into The Kruger National Park you pass a small cluster of buildings- in days gone by not much to make you stop or even notice but things have changed! Now Hamilton’s nestles on the corner looking as if it has always been there. This certainly must be, if not the most beautiful restaurant I have ever seen, then one of the top- with stonework and wooden windows it is elegant and inviting! Named after the first game ranger in the Kruger National Park, Stephan Hamilton, this is the first real restaurant in the area and one that is sure to become a destination. With outstanding decor and food created by a well known chef remember to make a booking at this very popular spot! Try the well-matured sirloin steak served rare with roasted baby potatoes and don’t miss the Chocolate Nemesis – a very wicked version of “death by chocolate”. And remember to pick up any deli items that you might need for the rest of your stay in the area from their deli fridges! (Phone: 013-790 3421)

If you are on the upper eastside and in need of a cup of coffee or if you just want a treat and to experience a “place where ladies lunch” then visit Lady M at 41 East 78th Street.
A very slick cake boutique- expect all white décor and chandeliers, teas and coffee and champagne by the glass and their delectable hand-made desserts and cakes.
TT1 Try their gateau au chocolate
TT2 You can order a slice or whole cake to take home

A visit to New York is not complete for me without a visit to this gorgeous dessert bar! Yes a restaurant that only serves dessert- but dessert like you have never seen before! Do not be put off by the thought of large helpings of diet exploding food… Chikalicious is the very essence of delicate touch and restraint. On the menu is a starter and finale with a choice for your main dessert. Everything is beautifully presented and delicate. Choose to have coffee or tea or a glass of champagne with your desserts.
TT1 Sit at the counter if you can and watch Chika herself prepare the desserts with the touch of a true artist.
TT2 Go in the afternoon to avoid the queue.

If you are like me and can’t do without a regular intake of good chocolate then you must visit Jacques Torres Chocolate Haven.
Make a morning of it and walk there along River Promenade. To do this take the R or M to Brooklyn and get off at Court Street. Walk down Montague Street, taking in a quaint side of Brooklyn. Walk to the end of the street and turn right into River Promenade. Stroll along the promenade getting a lovely view of Manhatten and the Statue of Liberty. You will see Grimaldis Pizzeria (in itself famous and always a queue waiting for these pizzas). Walk down Pearl/ Adam until turning right into Water Street. Chocolate Haven will be on your right and now you will truly feel that you have earned your chocolate indulgence!
TT1. Try the Wicked Hot Chocolate with chilli peppers and choose a few chocolates- my favourites were Tequila Afridisica and Chai Tea Chocolate!
